THE AMERICAN RED CROSS  - DISASTER ACTION TEAM
This project is an 'on call' effort. If you'd like to be notified to volunteer during a city emergency please be sure you are signed up ahead of time.

​Backyard Humanitarian is an official community Partner of The American Red Cross, Connecticut, Area 1
Backyard Humanitarians on this team are on call to help w/the Red Cross Disaster Action Team in Stamford.
​Backyard Humanitarians on this team must participate in training from the American Red Cross. Spontaneous volunteers may also be called upon in extreme situations (those with no prior training).

​SHELTERS
We  assist the Red Cross team with shelters during weather related emergencies such as hurricanes and floods. In order to prepare to be safe, neighborhoods can sometimes be evacuated. In a case like this, shelters are opened in safe areas out of the impact zone. 

It's important to be there for someone when emergencies happen, because it's a stressful time and they don't need to worry about their most basic needs. Thank you so much!
