MAY 13, 2025
FLAGS IN - QUEEN OF PEACE, STAMFORD, CT

We have been supporting the VFW/City of Stamford Flags In event every year before Memorial Day since 2011, contact us to sign up and join our team. We also have other events throughout the year to support veterans and active service members.
13 MAY - Backyard Humanitarians & friends planted flags to Remember and Honor Veterans who have died.
There are approximately 400 flags.

THE MISSION:
On MAY 13 at 4:00 pm (1600 hrs)   - COMPLETED!

We will walk the cemetery to locate veterans graves so we can place the flag as stated below.  They have an identifying engraved stone that will say name and branch of service. Stone may be flat or may be vertical.

Place flags on the right shoulder of the deceased with will be our left when we stand in front.
"American Flag Code calls for the RIGHT as the position of honor developed from the time when the right hand was the "weapon hand” or “point of danger.” The right hand, raised without a weapon, was a sign of peace. The right hand, to any observer, is the observer’s left. Therefore, as used in the Flag Code, the flag and/or blue field is displayed to the observer’s left, which is the flag’s “own right,” according to the U.S. American Legion. As such, the flag is placed to the left of the headstone. “It’s a derivative of federal law, when a flag is displayed, it should be over your right shoulder.” Archie Elam, U.S. Army Veteran
